The IO Foundation, is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our internship cohort for its Q1 2026 intake (1st January 2026 - 31th March 2026) for both in-person and remote modalities.

While our intake dates are set, the actual duration of your internship can be tailored to meet your specific university requirements.

Why join this Internship?

TIOF Fellows represent The IO Foundation on an international stage while contributing to advancing the Data-Centric Digital Rights (DCDR) advocacy by actively engaging in Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) with their communities and the technical standards they produce.

An internship in The IO Foundation is an opportunity to grow your career with a real environment combining advocacy and production. You will be mentored by experienced members of the organization and provided with all the tools you will need to carry out your duties during your internship.

Terms of Reference

Applicants must understand and abide by the following:

Requirements

• You can join the internship by two modalities based on your location of residence:

• In-person (for those who stay or plan to stay in Kuala Lumpur during the internship)

• Remote (for those who stay in any other part of the globe)

• In-person interns will perform their duties at TIOF's HQ, unless otherwise specified.

• Remote interns will perform their duties at their corresponding Argos Club, unless otherwise specified.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic environments

• Passion for and commitment to The IO Foundation's mission and values

• Languages

• English fluent both oral and written

• Fluent level of local official languages is a plus.

• Strong networking skills and a proactive approach to building relationships within the tech community will be a plus.

• Strong understanding of data privacy and technology issues will be a plus.

• Proven experience in event participation, public speaking or advocacy will be a plus.

Responsibilities

By becoming an Intern you commit to the following responsibilities:

• Actively participate in TIOF's operations, projects and activities.

• Fulfill the duration and working hours of the internship, which will be agreed between TIOF and the intern, on the basis of the respective university's requirements.

NOTICE

The IO Foundation will give a final score based to Intern performance and will produced certificate when the Terms of Reference are fulfilled by both parties.

• Execute, diligently, the assigned tasks.

• Actively participate in the corresponding Work Meetings and check-ins as needed.

• Provide all administrative documents that are required by both TIOF and the respective university, as and when requested.

• Collaborate with other TIOF Members to enhance the impact of the organization's advocacy effort.s.

• Act as a responsibly and in accordance to TIOF's Code of Conduct Being a TIOF Intern implies representing The IO Foundation and effectively communicating our mission, values and initiatives.

• Blockchain based certificate of Internship participation (check our Certificates.TheIOFoundation.org platform), will be given on:

  • Fully completion of Internship period and agreeable work

  Note: [#TIOF] Training Bytes and other courses participated during the internship will have their own certificates

• Access to the The IO Foundation's TechUp Community where you'll be able to enhance your knowledge and career opportunities:

  • Access to exclusive training by TIOF

  • Priority for next Fellowship opportunities

  • Stay informed on current trends and developments in technology and data privacy to contribute to discussions and strategic planning.

  • Participate in monthly TechUp Community meetings.

What is covered

The following items are covered for In-Person and Remote internships:

Transportation	No	Interns will have to arrange for their transportation back and forth to their corresponding internship location.
Accommodation	No	Interns will have to arrange for their accommodation.
F&B	As applicable	Interns will benefit of F&B as applicable, such as being available for a given activity.
Per diem	As applicable	This Internship includes per diem subject to funding availability.
Visa	No	This internship may involve any visas depending on your passport. TIOF will help with any supporting documents needed to apply for your visa yet won't cover its cost.
